Hi Windows Users,
At last week's Consumer Electronics show in Las Vegas, Bill Gates released the sales figures for his bouncing baby OS, Windows XP. The OS, launched on October 25, has sold over 17 million copies. Sales to computer manufacturers are more than 300 percent higher than that of Windows 98 over the same period. In addition to bragging about the latest sales figures, Gates also spoke about several new technologies that are designed to work with Windows XP. He envisions an XP-enabled PC as the central control unit for a wired home. "Mira" software coupled with a wireless flat- panel display could give you an entertainment control center in the palm of your hands (think remote control on steroids). Freestyle, another part of the master plan, includes support for DVD and digital music playback and the ability to process and record television signals.

Sincerely,

Ryan Adkins

XP Drivers
If you just installed XP on your system, some of your hardware might not be working properly. There's no need to blow your paycheck on a new sound or video card. You probably just need to download new drivers for your existing hardware. A driver is a program on your computer that controls a device (disk drive, printer, modem). Although XP comes bundled with drivers for many devices, it might not contain the drivers you require. DriversHQ features links to driver downloads from a wide range of hardware manufacturers. Click the link below to find the drivers you need. I've also included links to the XP drivers for the popular Sound Blaster audio card and the nVidia video card.

The Easy XP Personal Screensaver
It used to be a total pain in the butt to create a screensaver out of your personal photo collection, but XP makes it easy. Put your pictures in the "My Pictures" folder and XP can automatically display them as a screensaver. It even uses cool transition effects.

1. Right click an empty spot on your desktop and select properties
2. Click Screensaver
3. On the Screensaver pulldown menu, select "My Pictures Slideshow"
4. Click the Settings tab to customize the way your pictures will
be displayed. You can change the size, the rate at which they
change, and more.
Speedy XP
XP is nice to look at, but all of those graphical improvements slow your system down. Reclaim some of that speed for more important tasks by performing a simple change to XP's graphics settings.

1. In the Control Panel, select Performance and Maintenance.
2. Go to System and click on the Advanced tab.
3. Select "Performance"
4. Under Visual Effects, select "Choose Best Performance".

You'll lose some of those nifty visual effects, but, let's face it, that was just useless eye candy anyway.
