SCOOP VE COMMODORE:
WORLDS 1ST LOOK AT HOLDENS 2006 COMMODORE
Forget all the speculation and computer generated images, because Motor's spy photographer has caught the real VE commodore.
Snapped in the metal for the first time, this car, to be launched next September, will carry Holodens hopes until at least 2014.
It's also back on the front burner in North America, where Buick, a sedan based on VE's Zeta architechture will be on sale by the end of 2008 after the thawing of a 10 month old development freeze.
A far more complex car than the VZ it will replace, the VE will have several design and engineering highlights, though sources insist Holdens boffins are most proud of the car's sophisticated rear suspension.
It's said to be a five link system that surpasses even Mercedes-Benz for engineering for engineering difficulty and, as an example, will use nearly four times as many bushes as the outgoing version. The front suspension carries over the MacPherson strut philosophy, though with the additionof a BMW-esque lower control arm to allow it to push farther forward.
While the on sale date of the car has been pushed back from late February to September for the Commodore, sources confirm the long wheel base WM Statesman and Caprice will be on sale just one month later to begin recouping the VE's stupendous development costs. Sources suggest Ve will cost around $2300 more per car to build than VZ.
Believed to contain the lowest local content of any commoder in history (around 55 percent) the cars will continue to use locally built HFV6.
Three different exhaust types have been spotted so far. The dual exhaust systen indicates SV6, single exhaust is base atmo V6 and thumping quad pipe is for the awesome 6.0 Litre V8.
