We told you a few weeks ago about the 997-based Porsche 911 GT2 when clean spy shots surfaced (SPIED," June 25), but now Porsche is coming clean with official details about its new performance heavyweight.
The GT2’s 3.6-liter twin-turbocharged boxer-six will boast 530 hp for an increase of 50 hp over the previous GT2 and is mated to a six-speed manual transmission. The bump in power is accompanied by 15 percent better fuel efficiency from a cooler fuel/air mixture. To achieve this, the expansion intake manifold uses oscillating air to keep temperatures even lower than the 911 Turbo. This propels the GT2 to 60 mph in 3.6 seconds and makes it the first production 911 to crack the 200-mph barrier with a top speed of 204 mph. Ceramic brakes are standard to slow things down.
Visually, the GT2 features large air intakes in the front and rear wing, 19-inch wheels wrapped with performance rubber and titanium mufflers for a 50 percent weight reduction over stainless-steel units.
The GT2 will be revealed officially at Frankfurt in September and arrives in U.S. showrooms early next year, starting at $191,700.
