Bedeviled Vettes: Chevy mum about plans for 600-hp C6 supercar

By AUTOWEEK

Chevy is not confirming the existence of a super-high-performance Corvette called the Blue Devil (AW, Dec. 22), but officials acknowledge it’s possible that engineering and racing development prototypes based on the sixth-generation Corvette do exist and may have picked up the moniker.

And yes, as many AutoWeek readers have suggested, the Blue Devil name was chosen intentionally to catch the attention of General Motors CEO and Duke University Blue Devil alumnus Rick Wagoner.

Chevy officials say they have no production plans for the 600-hp, 7.0-liter V8-powered Blue Devil, despite information obtained by AutoWeek pointing to a 2006 production debut of the $100,000 sports car. The production C6’s worldwide premiere is just days away at the Detroit auto show.

---------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
The Blue Devil, and Supervette were probably things being considered by GM at one point.

But, the utter lack of any information for some time pretty much tells us it isn't going to happen.

I think the reaction to the Caddy Cien concept spawned the possibility....
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My sources tell me the following:

The Blue Devil will be a very expensive $100,000 version of the Z06.

Engine code LTT
7.5 liter 12 cylinder Twin Turbo LTT motor
650 HP output.
Carbon Fiber body parts.
Dry Sump
Aluminum Frame
2800 lbs.
Titanium engine parts
Three valve/cyl heads as seen on the 2006 Z06 7.0 liter V8 below:

((أعتقد ان هالصوره فوتوشوب))

He told me this week about the Blue Devil Twin Turbo, pricing, etc. but the displacement I got from here:

وهنيه مقارنه بينه وبين دووج فايبر وبين فورد جي تي
C6 SuperVette Vs. Ford GT Vs. Dodge Viper SRT10

I Hope To See a full test of the C6 Supervette Vs. the Ford GT Vs. The Dodge Viper SRT10 in Car and Driver or something. That would be too cool!

Blue Devil"

John McElroy, influential host of "Autoline Detroit" a weekly television program seen on Detroit's local PBS affiliate and also on the Speed Channel, reported on his "Automotive Insight" program on WWJ radio this morning that GM has a new, top-secret facility under construction in Wixom, a far western suburb of Detroit.

What will happen in this facility? John is reporting that GM will use the facility to create handbuilt engines for GM's future performance cars, much in the same way that AMG does for Mercedes-Benz - with one technician building an entire engine by hand.

Candidates for this program? Most likely the 625hp V-8 engine for the upcoming ultra-high-performance version of the next generation C6 Corvette, code-named "Blue Devil." Also, future engines for Cadillac's aggressive new V series program, which will include V-8s and reportedly even V-12s.
